Growing up in the midwest, I was a mountain virgin. Once I found heaven, and came back to those same familiar plains, I always felt like something was missing. I'd often say to myself, "You know, what this prairie needs is a big, fat snowy mountain." Moving up to Canada from California, I took the eastern side of Oregon to get to Nelson. And lo and behold, my prairie/mountain fantasy was a reality.

Kootenay Pass October 8, 2007
My buddy Eric and I headed up to Kootenay Pass to see what sort of goods we could find. We were able to skin right out of the parking lot. Awesome. We skinned part way up cornice ridge and skied all the way back to the car. We hit a few rocks and I got a core shot, but hey, it was skiing in October. I can't wait until this place really gets dumped on. I love living in the Kootenay's.
Ski Season is officially open
